Calvados

Calvados is an apple brandy from Normandy in northern France, produced by fermenting cider and then distilling it into a spirit that is typically matured in oak. Depending on the producer and appellation, pears may also play a role, adding floral and aromatic complexity alongside the apple character. The finished spirit can range from fresh and fruit-driven to deep, layered, and oxidative with extended aging. Common flavors include baked apple, pear, spice, caramel, vanilla, and dried fruit, making Calvados one of the most distinctive fruit-based spirits in the world.
